About

Four Trimesters was founded by Dr. Amy Chin-Atkins in December 2002 and is co-owned and operated by Ginny Phang – who is a certified DONA Birth & Postpartum Doula & Trainer, Childbirth Educator, 5-PATH Hypnotherapist, Master NeuroStrategist, HypnoFertility and HypnoBirthing Practitioner & Trainer – affiliated with the HypnoBirthing Institute USA, Eastburn Hypnotherapy Center, SRI Coaching and Doulas of North America, the world’s largest doula organization.

She and her team of Birth & Postpartum Doulas, doula with a warm heart because birth matters, with the philosophy of empowering parents to have their best birth possible regardless of the outcome.

Every client is assigned two Doulas, as they work as a team to care for the parents through pregnancy, birth and into the fourth trimester!

About Ginny

Ginny Phang has been a Doula since 2003 and has supported over 300 births and taught countless antenatal classes to over 500 couples both in Singapore & around the region. Her extensive experience as a Doula includes working with:
- First-time mothers and mothers who have had multiple babies
- Couples from all corners of the globe – from Malaysia to Melawi
- Vaginal births after a cesarean (vbac), breech vaginal births, twins, waterbirths, homebirths, etc.

As the only HypnoBirthing Practitioner who has taught the most couples in Singapore and around Asia, she has had more than 500 couples attending her classes since HypnoBirthing was introduced to Singapore in July 2005.

More than 80% of her clients have had drug-free births and have learned to breastfeed successfully. Ginny believes in enriching a woman’s childbirth experience, supporting couples through their choices and helping them to achieve the best possible birth experience.

She was trained under birth legends such as Marie Morgan, founder of the HypnoBirthing Institute, and Penny Simkin, founder of Doulas of North America (DONA) and author of several childbirth books. Ginny is a trainer with both the HypnoBirthing Institute as well as DONA in the US. She is also certified as a HypnoFertility Therapist, HypnoBirthing Practitioner, Advanced Hypnotherapist, Master Neurostrategist, and is a Breastfeeding Consultant & Childbirth Educator. She is one of the recipients of the DONA International Fellowship 2010, where she trained to be a DONA Postpartum Doula Trainer.

She is also the Program Manager of the WHO Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) in charge of working with the hospitals in Singapore to be BFHI accredited starting 2012.

In 2006, she facilitated the first waterbirths in both National University Hospital Singapore and Mount Alvernia Hospital Singapore. She was also nominated for Women’s Weekly magazine’s “Women of the Year Award” under the Education section for recognition of her work as a Doula.

Various hospitals and organizations have invited Ginny to give talks and workshops based on her expertise. In 2007, she was invited by the Singapore International Congress of Obstetrics & Gynecology to speak on the role of Doulas for expectant parents, working together as a team and waterbirthing. She is also a regular speaker for prenatal yoga teacher training certification courses.

Ginny is a single mother to a 10 year old son who is both the compass and the anchor of her life. A dedicated mother, she breastfed her son until he was 6.5 years old and homeschooled him for almost 2 years.

In 2003, Ginny co-founded Flyin’ Solo, Singapore’s first and only support group for unmarried mothers in Singapore. The group has since disbanded and functions as an email support group.

The media – from print to screen – has spotlighted Ginny and her services time and again. She has been featured in over a hundred publications, including dailies like The Straits Times and magazines like Today’s Parents, Singapore Women’s Weekly and Motherhood. In 2008, TIME magazine sought out a quote from Ginny in the article, The Labor Market. Ginny has also been featured on Channel News Asia and, most recently, on Clicknetwork.tv

Being a Doula is truly Ginny’s life’s calling – much more than a profession, it’s a real passion. Unlike other practitioners in this field, she uses her own journey to support other women through this significant continuum of womanhood. It is an intimate voyage, with no space for judgment but plenty of room for body, mind and soul support at every step of the way.

[...] Ginny introduced us to HypnoBirthing – a birth approach that draws on breathing, relaxation, visualisation & deepening techniques.  She had also been invaluable in my search for birthing information. (Find Ginny) [...]
